Stump Grinding

One of the biggest parts of tree removal is stump grinding. Simply removing the tree from your residential or commercial property is only part of the job. Stump grinding is the act of removing the stump by mechanically grinding and chipping up the remnants. Stump grinding is the term that most tree service professionals use when talking about removing a stump. Our full service tree removal company is fully equipped to remove the stump.

Many different scenarios can cause stump removal to be complex. The wind sometimes blows a tree completely over and the root ball comes up with the tree and is still intact with the trunk. This is the easiest way to remove a stump. It is already exposed and the roots are tore loose. After the limbs and trunk of the tree are removed, a piece of heavy equipment, like a knuckle boom or a Bobcat push the stump to the tree service truck, loaded and hauled off. This type of stump removal is common with disaster tree removal or emergency tree removal.

The most common tree stump removal happens when we remove a standing tree. The stump is left in the ground and poses a tripping hazard or an unsightly view. Stump grinding begins when we pull a piece of equipment on the property. It has a powerful engine that turns a big grinding wheel with sharp teeth. The wheel turns at a high rate of speed and pressure is applied downward and side to side until the tree stump is removed. We usually leave the ground stump material in the hole to prevent someone from falling into it and being injured. If you want them to remove the stump chips and refill with dirt or topsoil, that will be up to you and it is an additional cost.

The tree chips created by stump removal are a good source of mulch that can be used around other parts of your yard or property. Tree mulch and chipped trees are valuable in decorating your yard. The resulting mulch can be used as a top dressing around existing plants to keep down weeds and retain moisture.
